achin', breakin' heart

Has your heart ever hurt so badly that you felt like it would just crumble into a million pieces?  Has it ever hurt that badly for someone else?

That is where I find myself today.  In a million pieces with an aching heart.  An aching heart for someone who I love more than life itself.  There are no words that act as a salve to the pain.  No magical pill to ease the ache.  No way to fix it.  Instead, there is just hurt.  I hurt because that person hurts.  I want to take it all away.  I want to make it better.  I want it just go away---poof!, like it never happened.

I find myself clinging to the promises of Truth.  A promise not to harm my loved one.  A promise to give them hope and a future.  A promise to work all things together for good because they love the Lord with all their heart and live a life according to His purpose.

"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD,
“plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future."
Jeremiah 29:11

"And we know that in all things God works for the good
of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."
Romans 8:28

I find myself casting the whole of my cares---anxieties, worries, concerns---on Him.  Because I know He cares for us and He watches over us.

"Casting the whole of your care---
all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns,
once and for all on Him, for He cares for you
affectionately and cares for you watchfully."
1 Peter 5:7

This cold, nasty, mean world does it's best to keep you wallowing in your pain.  It likes to kick you back down while you are trying to pick yourself up.  The lies of the Enemy sometimes scream louder than the whispers of the Spirit.  But where there is pain, He is close.  I know this because His word says it is so.  With my achin', breakin' heart, I know the Lord is the midst of my loved one's situation.  I know He is working this all out for His glory.

"The LORD is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
Psalm 34:18

Will you join me in prayer for this situation?  May my loved one feel covered in a warm blanket of God's unending, all-encompassing love.  May the peace that surpasses all understanding wash over them, erasing every negative thought and feeling.  May the whispers of the Holy Spirit begin to resonate louder and louder and louder in the heart of the one who is hurting.  May we stand firm on His promises to bring good from bad and to heal crushed spirits.  May we trust that His plan is good and perfect and right.
