five minute friday: grit

grit: {noun}:: firmness of mind or spirit : unyielding courage in the face of hardship or danger

I spend most of days trying to get rid of grit.  You know, the dirt and messiness, that finds it way into a home of busyness and kids and life.

But I spend the rest of my time trying to build a life of grit.  A firmness of mind and spirit.  A life firm in the Spirit.  A life steady in the Word.

Because it is that life, the life of grit, that can face hardships and dangers with courage and hope.  God provides the courage and hope.

So many of my friends {my girls--the women that I count on to do life with} are facing messy situations.  My prayer is that they will stand firm in the face of mess.  A life that shows how gritty they are.  A life that shows the hope and courage of Jesus.

Take my side, God—
I'm getting kicked around,
stomped on every day.
   Not a day goes by
      but somebody beats me up;
   They make it their duty
      to beat me up.
   When I get really afraid
      I come to you in trust.
   I'm proud to praise God;
      fearless now, I trust in God.
      What can mere mortals do?
Psalm 56: 1-4 (MSG)

For I hold you by your right hand—
      I, the LORD your God.
   And I say to you,
      Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.
Isaiah 41:13 (NLT)
