the greatest valentine

Valentine's Day.  A day where a weird little guy wearing a toga shoots arrows.  Not my favorite holiday.  Never has been.

But I'm a hopeless romantic.  Not just one day a year.  But all year long.

Last night, I steadied myself on the greatest love story.  It happened long, long ago.  And it was displayed on a Cross.

God is love.  And He loved me so much, that He sent His only Son for me.  He loves you that much, too.

Because of this perfect display of love, I am able to love others.

It is only because of His unfailing love for me that I am able to love my imperfect husband.  And my imperfect husband is able to love his completely flawed wife.

It is only because of His patient love for me that I am able to love my impatient daughter.  My impatient daughter who gets her impatience from her mama, but I am able to cover that impatience with patient love.  Because of Him.

It is only because of His all-encompassing love for me that I am able to love my son, who is really not my son.  But because of His love, I am able to love him like he is my own.

It is only because of His extravagant love that I am able to love everyone around me.  Because He first loved me, I am able to pass that love on to others.

The greatest love story was written by the One who is love.

God is love.  He is the greatest Valentine I ever received.

"And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.
God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them."
1 John 4:16
